Hosted telephony means that your phone system is hosted in the cloud, rather than your office. A cloud based system does everything – and more – that a traditional system does, but it removes the need to purchase (and pay upfront for) expensive, dedicated equipment (often referred to as a PBX). It also means you don’t need any Analogue or ISDN lines. A hosted solution works on any internet enabled device (desk, VOiP and mobile), transforming your phone system into software rather than hardware.
Hosted telephony platforms have their calls go via a broadband connection and it is important to have adequate bandwidth to ensure QoS (Quality of Service) for the calls. Bandwidth is the ability of data to be transmitted over a network in telecoms and computing. When setting up a hosted telephone system or any Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution, you should ensure that enough bandwidth is available.
The second element is the controller, the ‘brains’ of the system and this would sit in a remote data centre, not your own offices.
